During adolescent summers, when kids babysat and mowed lawns for summer funds, I sat next to my grandmother and aunts - pillow case on my lap, nailbone in hand - trying to emulate the perfection of their work. I beamed with pride over my stacks of basket bottoms, my small contributions to the larger works of art.

Among other things, Tometta is a photographer and owner of Rice Coast Photography in the South Carolina midlands.
